How We Work

From first call to finished wall

Most people have never commissioned stonework before and aren't sure what to expect, or what it should cost. Here is how a typical project runs.

STEP 01

Site visit

We come out, look at the site and talk through what you have in mind. Free, and no obligation. Bring photos of walls you like — it is the fastest way to agree a look.

STEP 02

Quotation

You get a written quote covering the stonework, the finish and the timeframe, so you know what is included before anything starts.

STEP 03

Stone & sample

We advise on stone selection and matching, and agree the pattern and the joints on a sample panel before we build the rest. Nothing is a surprise at the end.

STEP 04

Build & finish

Our own crew builds the work, keeps the site tidy and leaves it clean. We walk the finished job with you before we go.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Do you supply the stone, or do we?

Both work. On civil engineering and housing schemes we normally work fix-only, with the main contractor supplying the stone to the site. On private jobs we can advise on selection, matching and sourcing, and price the work either way.

What areas do you cover?

We are based in Cork and work throughout Cork city and county and the wider Munster region. For larger contracts we travel nationwide.

Do you work as a subcontractor for main contractors?

Yes. Natural Stone Masonry Ltd is an Irish limited company, RCT registered, and works as a specialist stone masonry subcontractor on civil engineering schemes and housing developments alongside residential work.

Are you insured?

Yes. We carry public liability and employers liability cover, and certificates are available on request for prequalification.

How is stonework priced?

Most stonework is measured and priced by the square metre of finished face, with entrances, pillars and copings measured separately. You get a written quote setting out what is included before anything starts.

How long does a job take?

It depends on the size, the stone and the finish. We give a timeframe with the written quote after the site visit, so you know the programme before we begin.

What kinds of stone do you work with?

Traditional mortared and dry stone masonry in Irish natural stone — limestone, sandstone, granite and slate — including lime mortar work on older walls and buildings.
